HTC Vive Pro hands-on review

More than a simple resolution bump - the Pro makes the Vive feel new again

Vive Pro review

The best VR headset around. Vive Pro review.

Comfortable fit ; High-resolution screen ; Built-in headphones ; No light bleed

Field of view could be better ; Set-up is still too involved ; Price and system requirements are high

The best VR headset around just took a significant step forward. If you were a fan of the Vive then you’ll appreciate the improvements made with the Vive Pro, but if VR isn’t for you then the Pro isn’t the headset that will change your mind.

HTC Vive Pro review: Better in every way, but it’s not for you

The Vive Pro has everything we wanted in HTC's original VR headset. But it's incredibly expensive, especially if you need to buy new accessories. At this point, it's clearly only meant for VR professionals.

Vastly improved ergonomics ; Higher resolution screens ; Built-in headphones

High price ; Accessories are another $299

Everyone else would be better off with the Vive, or just waiting until HTC announces a complete Vive Pro kit with new accessories later this year. Just don't expect that to be cheap either.

HTC Vive Pro hands-on review

The HTC Vive Pro takes everything we liked about the original, and makes it better.

Increased resolution is fantastic ; Built-in earphones are well-designed and high-quality ; Comfortable, redesigned headstrap ; Optionally wireless ; Backwards compatible

Still has a field of view of only 110 degrees ; Built-in earphones add an unnecessary cost

HTC Vive Pro review: Virtual reality without the rough, blurry edges

The HTC Vive Pro pushes VR forward with a higher resolution and improvements that debuted in the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, but at $800 for the headset alone it's likely to remain niche.

Increased resolution. You can finally read text! ; Counterweight offsets the display ; Folds in the rigid design and headphones from last year's Deluxe Audio Strap

Expensive, even for VR ; Built-in headphones are fine, but not as impressive as HTC touts ; Counterweight sticks out a bunch and can make seated VR uncomfortable

But it’s the resolution bump that matters. The headphones, the rigid strap, the thinner cable—these can all be replicated with the Deluxe Audio Strap for the original HTC Vive, and while the Vive Pro makes a few small tweaks, it’s nothing I’d call...

HTC Vive Pro

The HTC Vive Pro is the most technically impressive tethered VR headset we've tested, but it doesn't offer enough over the standard model to justify the steep increase in price.

Crisp, high-resolution graphics. Good sound. Solid, comfortable build.

Expensive. Doesn't include the base stations or motion controllers it requires to function. DisplayPort only.

Bottom Line: The HTC Vive Pro is the most technically impressive tethered VR headset we've tested, but it doesn't offer enough over the standard model to justify the steep increase in price.

HTC Vive Pro review: The best VR experience you can get

It’s still expensive and complicated to set up, but never has full virtual reality immersion looked so good

The best quality VR experience money can buy ; Great array of games and experiences to enjoy ; Comfortable and ergonomic headset

Incredibly expensive ; Powerful PC required to run ; Wireless VR comes at yet another cost

HTC Vive Pro review: The best VR experience, bar none... if you can afford one

The HTC Vive Pro includes a number of different design improvements that potentially make it a worthwhile upgrade for current HTC Vive owners. It's

Incredible visual improvements ; Excellent Hi-Res and spatial sound enhancements ; Comfortable fit and easy adjustment ; Single connection improvement

It's really expensive (as no controllers or base stations included) ; DisplayPort only connection ; Still not wireless ; 90Hz rather than 120Hz refresh rate

The HTC Vive Pro is undeniably the best virtual reality experience available today... if you can afford it.

HTC Vive Pro review

Hardcore VR fans are finally getting the high-end hardware they've been dreaming of

Certain games look stunning with Pro ; An incredibly more comfy and adjustable fit compared to the standard Vive ; Built-in headphones are much more convenient

Limited graphically-challenging game library ; Wireless adapter not included ; Overkill and too expensive for most people

This super-powered headset is overkill for VR newcomers, but if money is no issue, look no further for the ultimate virtual reality experience

HTC Vive Pro initial review: Better resolution gives a clearer experience

The Pro name reflects perfectly what this product is about and we are sure avid fans and heavy users of the original will be keen to upgrade.

Hi-res audio ; Better screen ; Comfortable fit ; Optional wireless adapter

No price as yet

The original HTC Vive is very good, and it will continue to be on sale, even after the Pro comes out, leaving this device designed for those who want "the best" when it comes to a VR experience.
