Acer Predator Helios 500

Acer's Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop is heavy hitter, including a 144Hz display, Nvidia GTX 1070 and G-Sync.

Effortless overclocking ; Stays reassuringly cool ; 144Hz screen

Huge and heavy ; Poor battery life

Smooth performance and cool running make this a worthy top-end gaming laptop, despite limited portability and a few little flaws. Just keep an eye on battery levels.

Acer Predator Helios 500

Acer's Predator Helios 500 squeezes full-fat overclockable GeForce GTX 1070 performance into a 17-inch gaming laptop, but we'd like to see a bit more battery life and chassis polish.

144Hz G-Sync display. Full-power Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics. RGB-backlit keyboard. One-click overclocking.

All-plastic finish. Keyboard lighting is programmable only by zones, not per-key. Short battery life.

Bottom Line: Acer's Predator Helios 500 squeezes full-fat overclockable GeForce GTX 1070 performance into a 17-inch gaming laptop, but we'd like to see a bit more battery life and chassis polish.

Acer Predator Helios 500 Review

You better cover yourself with some mud, because this Predator is so mighty that it would make Arnold Schwarzenegger run the other way. For $2,499 (starting at $1,999), the Helios 500 packs a beastly 8th Gen Core i9 processor and GTX 1070 GPU for...

Acer Predator Helios 500 (GTX 1070, i9-8950HK) Laptop Review

Ultra HD gaming device. The hunk of a laptop enters the second round: Not so long ago, we have already reviewed the lower-priced version of the Acer Predator Helios 500 - here comes the sequel. Is the expensive high-end version able to convince us?...

bright Ultra HD display with very good color space coverage ; future-proof RAM configuration ; extensively configurable backlight ; 2x USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ; convenient port placement ; great maintenance options ; decent sound system ; good input...

Core i9 unable to reach its full performance potential ; unconventional keyboard layout ; poor battery life ; very high idle power consumption ; material and rigidity too poor for its price ; significantly decreased performance in battery mode

No surprise: The Acer Predator Helios 500 in the 4K version with Intel Core i9-8950HK is another great device for gaming, as it still offers most benefits of the lower-priced version. However, in our opinion the lower-priced i7 model is the better...

Acer Predator Helios 500 (GTX 1070, i7-8750H) Laptop Review

Gaming upgrade. Our exclusive review of Acer's massive fella. Equipped with a 45 W CPU and a GTX 1070 the brand-new case contains a true gaming powerhouse. The Helios 500 is the successor to the Helios 300, and while still quite hefty and bulky the new...

bright FHD panel with decent response times ; 144 Hz G-Sync panel ; future-proof RAM configuration ; extensively configurable backlight ; 2x USB Type- C Thunderbolt 3 ports ; conveniently placed ports ; excellent maintenance options ; decent sound...

low-contrast FHD panel ; incomplete sRGB coverage ; odd keyboard layout ; quite pronounced backlight bleeding ; poor battery life ; high idle power consumption ; choice of material and rigidity too poor for its price

With its Predator Helios 500, Acer has once again created a well-rounded gaming powerhouse with more pros than cons when it comes to gaming. Nevertheless, even this 17-inch gaming machine is far from perfect and therefore demands a detailed...

Acer Predator Helios 500 review: Hands on with the gaming behemoth set to steal Razer’s crown

Acer's Predator Helios 500 features Intel's latest six-core i9+ processors and Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics

My only concern is the price. We know how much the basic configuration costs (£1,799), but it’s anyone’s guess how much the top-end variants will rip from our wallets; I expect such a price tag won’t be for the faint-hearted.

Acer Predator Helios 500

Acer's new high-end gaming laptop is more level-headed than some of the crazy designs the company has launched recently. Here's our first look at the Predator Helios 500.

Acer Predator Helios 500 Review: Keeping Its Cool

Acer is going big with the Predator Helios 500. Really big. The laptop ($1,999.99 to start, $2,499.99 as tested) is a 17.3-inch desktop replacement, but it's that space that keeps it so cool, even with a powerful Intel Core i9-8950HK and Nvidia GeForce...

The Acer Predator Helios 500 is a massive gaming laptop that’s easy to overclock and upgrade, but its display could be a little brighter.
