LG V30 review

LG's new flagship is a tempting, high-powered package

Streamlined design ; Bursting with features ; Interesting camera improvements ; Gorgeous OLED display

Doesn’t launch with Android Oreo ; Quite expensive ; Selfies and low-light photography aren’t industry-leading

The LG V30 is a confident step forward, not just for LG’s experimental smartphone branch, but for its flagship devices in general. Simply put, this is LG’s best in recent memory and as a result, it’s also one of 2017’s best smartphones.

Hands on LG V30 review: the most desirable LG phone ever?

The 6-inch behemoth from LG hoping to win your heart

Lightweight ; LG's best design, ever ; Audio

UI still isn't A1

LG V30 review

LG has somewhat reinvented its V-series phone and it's effectively an upgraded G6. With no G7 coming anytime soon, the LG V30 remains a solid choice for a new smartphone.

LG V30

LG V30 review, features, price and specs: With dual-camera, quad-DAC, a wide aperture and a lovely design, can LG finally make a great phone?

Loads of features ; Stunning audio ; The nicest looking LG phone yet

Screen isn't great ; Stuck on Android 7 ; LG's software is still ugly

For the first time in the series, the 3300mAh cell inside the LG V30 isn’t user-replaceable. This will disappoint some – but, realistically, it would be impossible to create such a good-looking device that still let you rip off the back.

LG V30 review

We have some issues with its screen, but this is a great-sounding smartphone.

Lovely sound ; Adaptable dual-lens camera ; Premium design ; Skinny screen bezel

HDR video quality not up to snuff ; Camera doesn’t rival the competition

On-the-go listening from a smartphone doesn’t get much better than this, but the V30 doesn’t have the image quality to back up its sound

LG V30 review

I just want a phone that does everything. Is that too much to ask?

The LG V30 almost has it all: a great camera, speedy processor, huge OLED screen, excellent battery life, waterproofing, wireless charging, microSD storage and the best headphone jack on a phone.

Ergonomic quirks can make the V30 awkward to hold. You may miss some shots due to slow camera autofocus. Carrier-specific versions come with annoying bloatware and logos.

The LG V30 is a rock-solid alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Plus and the Google Pixel 2 XL. If it fits your hands and your photographic needs, you won't be disappointed.

LG V30 review

Scraps the dual-screen gimmicks for a Hi-Fi focus

Phenomenal sound quality ; Gorgeous design ; Versatile dual-lens camera

One of the weakest OLED screens around ; Camera quality still not up there with the best

The best-sounding smartphone around, but display inconsistencies really let the side down

Review: LG V30

We review the LG V30, an understated phone that can go toe-to-toe with the best Android devices.

Waterproof and has some shock resistance if dropped. The fingerprint sensor on the back is easy to use and quick. With its headphone amp, it might be the best phone for audiophiles. It also holds up quite well, battery wise.

The camera is very good, but can’t compete with the absolute top smartphones. Glass design will require a case, and the rear coating picks up gunk. $800+ is a lot to pay for a phone.

LG V30 review: Another great LG phone that just isn't great enough

The LG V30 tries to break out of its niche with more mainstream appeal, but the results are pretty much the same.

Compact design, great battery life, and top-of-the-line specs. ; Camera app brings excellent features and shooting modes. ; Quad DAC offers superior sound through wired headphones. ; Wireless charging and IP68 water resistance are a nice addition.

Display is inconsistent and duller than other OLEDs. ; UX 6.0+ skin doesn't improve on the Android experience. ; Image quality isn't as good as its peers.

Even without last year's gimmicks, the LG V30 is still basically an Android enthusiast phone, appealing to die-hard fans who need the latest smartphone specs, and want killer audio and assortment of fun features. But its competition has only gotten...
